From Tempted to Fired Up: The Evolution of a Romance Writer
Today, I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming release of next erotic romance, Fired Up, a friends-to-lovers story that played a key role in the evolution of my career as a romance writer. The book releases July 28, but you can preorder it today.
Fired Up is the story of Mel Thompson and Adam Caras, lifelong best friends who discover they share an explosive passion for each other–one that irrevocably alters their relationship and exposes their true feelings. But Fired Up didn’t start out as a novel. It began its life as a short story, one that irrevocably changed my writing path.
My fans have known Mel and Adam for a year and half, since the release of Tempted by a Kiss in December 2015. That short story was my very first erotic romance. As soon as I started writing Tempted, I realized I how much I enjoy writing sexy scenes–not just sex scenes, but moments with sexy banter and steamy interactions that don’t go all the way. By the time I reached the pivotal first sex scene in the story, I knew I needed to go further than I ever had before. In my Reborn series novellas, I’d delved into hot territory, but erotic was another level altogether. The story and characters demanded it, though, and I listened.
I’ve never looked back–and never regretted the shift.
Yes, I still write hot-but-not-erotic books, like The Mortal Falls. But my erotic romances have become my favorites to write, because for me, sex scenes are about emotion and connection as much as graphic language. As soon as Tempted was published, and I saw the reaction from readers, I knew I had to write a novel-length version to tell the whole story of Mel and Adam. Thus, Fired Up was born.
My first novel-length erotic romance was Dangerous in a Kilt, and with each ER story I’ve written, I find myself pushing past my comfort zone to uncover new ways to heat up the pages without getting kinky. Mel and Adam are the culmination of that journey. Their story is hot, hot, hot!
