How to Literally Fall for a Guy

by Anna

November 15, 2015

What would life be without humor? Dull, dreary, listless…Well, I think you can tell how I feel about the subject! In my life, I enjoy joking around with my family and friends, with dumb jokes and sarcasm (as long as it’s not mean). It’s only natural for my love of laughing to bleed over into my writing.

I love humor in all shades – from the quite subtle to the intellectual to the pratfall variety. This brings me to the topic of this post. How does one literally fall for a guy? Ain’t it obvious yet? 🙂 In my upcoming paranormal romance The Mortal Falls, Lindsey trips over a rock and is caught mid-fall by the hero, Nevan. She stumbles into him a few more times in the book, in slightly different ways. I like the humor of it and the way it forces her into his physical space., since she’s avoided romance for years and has cultivated strict control over her emotions. The title of the book implies a few things about the story, from Lindsey’s literal falls to the way she falls for her hero and the mystical waterfall that lies at the heart of the plot.

In another upcoming book of mine – the contemporary romance Dangerous in a Kilt – my heroine, Erica, has gone to a notorious night club in search of a fling. She’s wearing stiletto heels for the first time ever and isn’t too stable on them. When she teeters into the hero, Lachlan, he halts her fall by grasping her arms. Confronted with a 6’3″ gorgeous Highlander, she loses her stability in many ways. Unlike Lindsey with her iron self-control, Erica has hit rock bottom emotionally by the time she encounters her hot Scot, for reasons I won’t divulge (yes, I’m mean that way). When she stumbles into him, his proximity overwhelms her – as does her immediate, insane attraction to him.

Romance fiction presents countless opportunities for humor. Dangerous in a Kilt probably has the most humor of any of my stories so far and I relished finding those moments to lighten the mood.

Have you ever literally fallen for a guy? Do you love humor in romances? Don’t be shy – share your stories and thoughts.
