Judy Ann Davis (Author Interview)
Please tell us something about you we can’t learn from your bio.
There are three things: I was raised on a dairy farm. I lived in Sweden for a year. I have my own little woodworking workshop.
What inspired you to write romance fiction?
I’m a dreamer and romantic who loves life and happy endings.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve learned while researching a book?
I learned about how red ware potters in the 1800s made ring flasks which were a hollow round cylinder that could be filled with water and used like a canteen. That became the impetuous for writing my first historical novel, Red Fox Woman.
Who is your favorite character from one of your books and why?
In my novel, “White Pines,” which is a story about a Texas lawyer and a female landscape owner, there is a secondary character—an elderly widow and housekeeper for the lawyer and his little daughter. Lulu Smith is a person who finds joy in everyday life. She’s comical, realistic, and truthful. And she wears outlandish brightly colored, mixed-matched clothing. She keeps everyone in line and on their toes.
What stories do you have in the works right now?
To date, I’ve written two contemporary mystery and romances, and two historical (western) mystery and romances, but I’d really like to do a contemporary holiday novella with a hero who owns a Christmas tree farm and a heroine who’s a female writer.
