Please tell us something unique about you we can’t learn from your bio.

I love to problem solve. It runs in the family. None of us can just listen to someone tell us about their problems without suggesting a fix. This was great when I was a software manager and it was my job, but it can be wearing on friendships and relationships. This is a trait often associated with men, but I come from a strong matriarchal family. My mother was one of three daughters, she had four daughters who had four daughters. Even the latest generation is two girls and one lone boy. Despite that, the women in my family are all problem solvers. We can’t help ourselves.

What’s your favorite part of writing?

Getting into the heads of my characters, and having them in my head.  I love when I lay out a plot, chapter by chapter, sure that I know exactly the direction I am taking my story, only to find myself writing something else. It is as if the character is writing the story instead of me. Trust me, I understand that these are not real people, but I am so familiar with their behavior, with the way they speak and live, with the emotions to which they react, that these characters can highjack my plot completely.

Do you make up settings or use real places and why?

I use real places whenever I can and even my made up settings are usually based on someplace real. I enjoy taking my readers on an exploration of Chicago and other cities where I have lived or visited. Like a travelogue, I want to show them the best and most beautiful spots. I want my readers to learn about museums, to dine at restaurants I mention, and to understand the worthy causes I showcase with my many fundraising scenes.

Who is your favorite character from one of your books and why?

Without a doubt, Sloane Huyler from Beholden. I loved creating her as a foil in Bedazzled so much that I had to bring her back for her own story. I was just not ready to let her go. Creating someone so spoiled, so selfish and used to getting her own way, but still finding a way to make her sympathetic was a challenge and a joy for me. Pairing her with Randall was even more fun, knowing that she looked down her nose at him. I was so in love with these two that I wrote their backstory in Bewildered the Beguiling Bachelor prequel.

What stories do you have in the works right now?

I am putting the finishing touches on the first story in a new series. Desire & Dessert is slated for publication in a new billionaire-themed collection this spring and launches my new Billionaire B&B Series. I am also working on the next of the Beguiling Bachelor novels as well as the second book in the B&B series, both of which will come out later this year.

About Our Love is Here to Stay

Can Love Transcend Time?

Thirty-year old Matthew Herrington is weary of solo nights in strange cities. He is ready for a change. And that is exactly what he gets when he steps into Swing Night at The Green Mill and is instantly immersed in the sights and sounds of another era. Intrigued by the club’s authenticity, Matthew is enchanted when he meets Patty, a mixture of sexy and sweet who steals his heart.

Patty Dennison has never met a man like Matthew in all her twenty-one years. A sophisticated man, he stands out from the usual Swing Night crowd. He is self-assured, smart, charming, and handsome as hell, even if he is a lousy dancer. Once he takes her in his arms, Patty is more than willing to give him a few dance lessons along with her heart.

Repeated missed dates and unanswered phone calls strain the relationship and frustrate the pair. But unraveling their mystery exposes an impossible scenario, one that will torment their sanity and test their love.
