Ooh La La…The Romance of Music (Post by Anna, Valentine’s Day Special)
Happy Valentine’s Day! To celebrate this day dedicated to love, I’m turning to one of my favorite subjects, one I often discuss in relation to my writing—music. I’ve earned two degrees in music and studied both piano and voice, so it’s natural that music has become integral to my writing process. I’ve discovered orchestral film scores boost the tension when I write suspenseful scenes and amp up the epic-ness of big moments in the story. Certain vocal songs evoke particular moods, helping me achieve the right state of mind for love scenes and pivotal emotional moments in the book.
Today, I present my romantic playlist for your enjoyment—complete with links to buy the songs, if you so choose, or to just listen to excerpts. I’m breaking the list down to reflect key plot points in a typical romance novel. (No, there is no “formula” for romance, but every genre has its conventions.) Let these songs guide you from the thrill of the first meeting to the heights of passion, and may they conjure for you the true romance of Valentine’s Day.
